After a couple years of trial and error this system seems to work best for us. We use no apple cider vinegar, hydrogen peroxide or anything else during the watering/ growing process. No special lights and the heat source is the home HVAC system. Keep your temps around 65-70 degrees. Barley can get yeasties and wheat can get mold. Proper temps, good watering and good drainage helps prevent those. With either, if you don't get good growth within the first 2-3 days in a tray keep an eye out for the mold or yeasties.
