The Netherlands fought until the end, but it wasn't enough. Davide Mazzanti (Italy head coach): "The team was fantastic. After the VNL we had to go through a very tough time but, little by little we made lots of improvements. We had patience even when things weren't going the way we wanted to. It wasn't easy to win against the Netherlands. At a certain point in the match they were beating us in a very efficient way. The Netherlands never give up. I'm very happy with the result. Playing at the Olympics is something that has to be conquered... now that we have qualified for Tokyo 2020, we can rest until January and prepare ourselves even better." Miriam Sylla (Italy player): "I'm happy. As I said yesterday we worked very hard to reach our goal. Today we played with enthusiasm, we were determined and we wanted to win. I have to admit we were a little bit jealous. We played against the Netherlands during the Rio 2016 qualification and they beat us 3-1... During today's match the audience helped us a lot with their way of supporting us. They stimulated us and they were never rude when we made mistakes. This was a huge help." Jamie Morrison (The Netherlands head coach): "At a certain point we have to get over it. I think we had a chance of winning both the first and second set, from the beginning we were kind of chasing them. I think that the substitutes gave us a little more energy when they came in, but it wasn't enough." Celeste Plak (The Netherlands player): "I want to congratulate Italy. They played a really good game and we clearly did not. After a match like this you have to look at yourself in the mirror and evaluate all the things that went wrong.
