Aluminum casting in a see through flask. Goal of casting was to watch and verify how a foam plug works to delay metal going into the sprue to let the pouring basin fill so no air gets pulled into the sprue. Also wanted to see velocity of metal in a 0.04 sq in sprue (at bottom) and runner. A secondary purpose was to demonstrate how dirty ingots can make clean castings with a submerged pouring spout from the crucible, and a pouring basin with foam plug to keep the sprue submerged. The foam plug vaporizes and pushes that vapor ahead of the metal, displacing air. The smoke can be seen in the video.
