Add your favorite smarthome commands as a routine that happens when you arrive or leave your home. In this video I show you a couple of demonstrations for why you would want to setup geofencing on your Alexa device. ARRIVE HOME: Opens Gate, Opens Garage Door. LEAVE HOME: Turn off Lights, Adjust Thermostats. ______________________________________________ ADDING YOUR WIFE OR OTHER'S DEVICE Whom ever the account has setup all your devices has to go into the alexa app and goto- home-menu (top-left)-settings-alexa account-amazon household-right here, add the other person to share this alexa account. Now, both will see the same smart devices and be able to make their own routines. Your wife would have to be logged into her separate amazon alexa account and then make sure - on her device to setup her home and work addresses when you get into the geosettings. Alexa GeoFencing does not need anything other than an echo dot to operate that routine because the routine actually works on the Alexa cloud along with your smartphone device. So...to troubleshoot, here's what I would do and check. #1 Does your home currently have a good internet and WiFi connection? Test that you can operate the garage door (eWeLink) with your smartphone outside of your house with just your smartphone connection (AT&T 4g, Verizon, etc.) basically, without your WiFi connected to your phone. #2 Check that you have your home address entered within Alexa App - Settings - Your Locations (so Alexa knows where your home is). #3 Check that your Smartphone has "LOCATION" based tracking turned ON. On your smartphone goto Settings - Connections - Location - and make sure that's turned on. #4 Go make a freash routine (geofenced) and stretch the location out to cover a few blocks away at the outer circle....ADD a second device to that same routine that will open your garage, maybe to turn on a smart plug that has a light or something attached (you may not have any other devices, but this would be ideal so that you can see if your Geofencing works, but not with your garage (eWelink).
